Following the success of the GRNW book drive this September 2013 for the Gay City LGBT Library, which gathered more than 240 donated LGBT books for the library from publishers, authors, and GRNW attendees, we thought it would be nice to do something similar for the 2013 holiday season for the Seattle nonprofit LGBT youth organization Lambert House.
Lambert House is a wonderful nonprofit organization that provides a safe, welcoming place for queer youth 22 and under, and hosts lots of fun activities, support groups, and meetings as well as programs to help develop leadership, social, and life skills.
Their library was in need of Young Adult LGBT books, and we thought it would be fun to step and help expand it.
In partnership with the group YA LGBT Books on GoodReads, GRNW and the GRNW GoodReads group hosted a book drive from November 9 – December 15, 2013 to gather YA LGBT books to donate to Lambert House.
During the book drive, 4 publishers, 12 YA authors, and 40 donors contributed more than 150 YA LGBT books to Lambert House, including 81 books off our Amazon gift registry!
Lambert House Executive Director Ken Shulman and GRNW Volunteers hold up some of the new YA LGBT books for the Lambert House library.
THANK YOU! Thank you to all the donors who have made this book drive a huge success! (See below for photos of the books that were donated!)
More Ways to Help
Lambert House is always looking for more books. If you would like to donate YA LGBT books for their library, please contact them. They would be very grateful to share any donated books with the more than 500 LGBT youth that visit Lambert House a year.
And THANK YOU to everyone for supporting such a great cause and helping spread the love about YA LGBT books!
